Blogging with Windows Live Writer

When I first started blogging I had two problems, where to post, and how to post. The  first problem I remedied by getting two free domains to post in and dropped the first one. The second problem I did some research on and came up with a free Microsoft solution. Windows Live Writer can be downloaded for free here. It is a very easy to use program you install on your computer and allows you to write your content offline and hit the Publish button to publish your posts. That’s it, It’s that easy! Of course there are many more features to it.

Zune & it’s Software on a trip to Florida

Yes, I have a Zune, I also own an iPod but everything under the sun has been said  about the iPod so I am going to try to leave it out of this blog. I am currently on a trip to Florida to spend the holidays with some of my family. I spent over 3 days trying to convert and sync my podcasts with the Zune that I downloaded in my iTunes. The Zune software wanted to convert every video podcast that I had to be compatible with the Zune. I had to configure and reconfigure the podcasts and eventually subscribe to the podcasts through the Zune software and even then it still had to convert the files the majority of my podcasts that are only available as iTunes compatible files. I am unsure of the file types right now because when I was doing this I was just trying to get the videos to sync and be done in between all the other stuff I was trying to get prepped before I left Pennsylvania.

SyncToy 2.0 – my new favorite app

My new favorite program is SyncToy 2.0 by Microsoft. SyncToy is a synchronization organizer that allows you to sync different folders with the same files. I use SyncToy to backup my flash drive on my laptop so that when I am editing or printing files away from my laptop I have the most recent copy. It will allow you to sync folders over the network also. Setting up SyncToy is straight forward.

Microsoft’s OneNote, for Students, Professionals, or Just About Anyone in Between

If you haven’t heard of OneNote, you have now. You should already be using OneNote in your day to day life whether it be working at the office, out of home, organizing your daily life, or taking notes in school. OneNote is Microsoft’s one stop shop to gather, organize, find, and share your notes and information you need to be productive. I was introduced to OneNote at the beginning of this school year. (I am a student at Penn State Harrisburg) After opening the program a few times at the beginning of the semester just to get a feel of what the program was for I put it aside and took my notes the old fashion way.

I will be the first to admit, I am a terrible note taker, my handwriting is sloppy and my hand cramps up very fast. During the middle of the semester I decided after the mid-terms that I was going to start taking my laptop into class with me, to every class. I now take all my notes in OneNote and I rarely write anything down in pencil and paper.
